Cwm Garw Fechan is a forested area, owned and managed by Natural Resources Wales, and was identified as a Key Strategic Site within the Valleys Regional Park. Funding was obtained to assist in raising its profile as a popular visitor destination by providing access, interpretation and biodiversity improvements. This was achieved by improving Pont-y-rhyl village centre and by strengthening existing pedestrian, cyclist and bridleway access.
FCA worked with ecologists and Nigel Talbot, public artist, to develop and implement proposals. Nigel worked with local school children on artwork which was incorporated into substantial stone waymarkers. Routes were improved through re-alignment, access control, drainage and resurfacing and a new 6 Km route was added to the series of Garw Valley Walks
