Fiona Cloke Associates carried out design and supervision of a series of environmental enhancement schemes in the village of Pendine in Carmarthenshire – the home of the land world speed record set by Parry Thomas in the 1920s. Phase one includes a central meeting place which utilises local limestone and links the beach with the main approaches to the village.
Phase two is on the edge of an SSSI and involved extensive liaison with the Ministry of Defence, Countryside Council for Wales, Environment Agency and Community Councils. It includes a section of the Wales Coastal Path, a series of wetland scrapes and flower rich grasslands while a ‘tyre track wall’ reminds the visitor of the village’s past achievements.
